Yes - it's been a while once again.
Winter has settled in and has made no indication it is willing to release its grip on the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains... yet. But the chickens and I hold out hope that spring will boot Old Man Winter out of the region very soon.
The Gingerbread coop looks right at home in these surroundings.
So remember how busy I was this last fall, working on illustrations for Grit Magazine? Well the issue with my art (AND an article that I wrote about keeping chickens healthy in the winter) is on the shelves NOW in a farm store near you! It is the Grit's Guide to Backyard Chickens issue.
In an ironic twist, my area has had so much snow, it delayed the delivery of this issue. I went to find it this past weekend to take some vanity selfies with the magazine in the store (because it really is pretty exciting) and they didn't have it in yet! As soon as I can get out of the driveway (see the snowy pictures above) I'll go back and try to get those shots.
And lastly, a little public service announcement.
All kids should have chickens.
That is all.
Have a great day and stay warm (Unless it happens to be hot where you live, in which case, stay cool)!

I'll have to pick up a copy of grit magazine! This winter was so hard on my chickens. It was mild, but then plummeted super-cold before they were acclimated! Awesome blog!
