I had first tried the suet and they just didn't like it for some reason. But they sure LOVE the lard! They do melt a little easier if held in the hand so I store them in the fridge and put them out cold. But they do hold together.

This reminds me to make some again!!! Your ingredients look so pretty!

I hate having to pen them for the hawks. I call it jail. :( Still have some under arrest here too.Leahs Momnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-934326041423690709.post-8018745944479962162013-10-28T07:01:51.360-04:002013-10-28T07:01:51.360-04:00Very nice article! It sounds like you are taking wonderful care of your flock, though. Have fun with the suet cakes - I know your birds will love them!
LeighBulldogmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773653470602929019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-934326041423690709.post-34750537876218874092013-10-27T23:23:03.324-04:002013-10-27T23:23:03.324-04:00I'm going to try this. I give them a container of oatmeal to a 50 lb. bag of food and the extra probiotics and the Omega egg. Chickens are not cheap to feed that's for sure! I have lost 2 this year, so even with doing these things and fermenting their feed I lost. Sad. Thanks a lot for sharing. It's been a few days for my mammas and chicks, and I'm pretty sure one of the smaller chicks tried to chew my face off today when I lifted the egg window to check on some eggs under the white Silkie... then it took off. They hate me... LOL!Bulldogmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773653470602929019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-934326041423690709.post-53275391860009851452013-10-27T22:12:01.154-04:002013-10-27T22:12:01.154-04:00Yeah, well I broke down and gave in this morning, ...Yeah, well I broke down and gave in this morning, let everyone out. Then after bedtime I had to go round up a few birds to put back in their own homes... a couple girls aren't accounted for, but I think they went to bed between much larger girls and just got lost in the fluff. LOL
(crossing fingers)
Apparently my SFH like their new home though, they all went to bed where they belong!
